A team of road workers and their families live away from the village on the coast, performing hard, seemingly pointless labor on a road no one needs. Their routine is disrupted by a couple who arrive by car and set up a tent nearby. The visitors belong to a different social stratum and culture, and their relationship and lifestyle captivate twelve-year-old Yurka. As the boy grows closer to them, a serious conflict with his parents erupts, forcing them to reconsider their own lives.
