Laura and Fabrizio have spent every summer meeting in the forest by her parents' summer home. Fabrizio is a solitary boy with only his dog for company, while Laura is sweet but unconfident. This summer, as both grow up, new feelings emerge: Laura falls in love with Fabrizio, and he shows a new sexual awareness of her masked by malice. Their story develops further when they meet Sylvia, who is confident and assertive, unlike the innocent Laura. Fabrizio becomes fascinated with her and eventually bribes Laura to bring Sylvia to the forest to join them in play.
