In the United States, Mr. Lin promises his grandson Lin Tien-Chi US$300 million on his deathbed, provided Tien-Chi finds a wife within a month. Tien-Chi is painfully shy and has never had luck with women. Mr. Lin's nephew Robert, who will get the money if Tien-Chi fails, does everything he can to prevent the marriage. Tien-Chi ends up with two choices: Feng Mu-Jen, who is deceiving him to help Robert, and Lo Hsiao-Hsiao, a beautiful poor girl whom Robert and Mu-Jen repeatedly set up so Tien-Chi won't choose her.
