Plot
Warning: spoilers

Set in 1969 after the Prague Spring, the film follows thirteen-year-old Julia, who has moved with her mother to a northern Austrian village on the Czech border. Silent since her father's death, she is isolated as an outsider until local youths provoke her into no-man's land. There she discovers a forgotten tunnel to a Czech construction site and meets Roland, a forty-five-year-old surveyor, forming an ambivalent father-daughter bond. She confides her border crossings only to Roman, whose affection helps her speak again, and she grows comfortable with Alexander, a boy her age. Roman makes new plans at her urging, leaving the border fortifications vulnerable.
