Plot
Warning: spoilers
Gilles is arrested alongside other Jews in occupied France in 1942 and deported to a camp in Germany. Facing sudden execution, he swears to the guards that he is Persian rather than Jewish, a lie that temporarily saves him. He is then tasked with teaching Farsi to Head of Camp Koch, who hopes to open a restaurant in Iran once the war ends. Gilles survives by inventing Farsi words each day and teaching them to Koch.
